About ECMA In June 2000, the European Crisis Management Academy (ECMA) was established as a joint initiative of the Leiden University Crisis Research Center and the Centre for Crisis Management Research and Training (CRISMART) of the Swedish National Defense College in Stockholm. In 2005, EUROSEC joined the consortium. ECMA aims to create a European network for crisis managers and academics with an interest in research, training and development of this field. By facilitating the exchange of ideas and best practices between practitioners and academics, the Academy seeks to improve the knowledge base for an enhanced capacity of dealing with national and transnational crises in the European framework. ECMA aims to strengthen European security through assisting in the development of safe, robust, and sustainable societies and polities. ECMA brings together cutting-edge research and regularly organizes activities to promote the interaction between policymaking and research. The Academy convenes and endorses high-level conferences in which both practitioners and academics participate. It puts together training seminars in order to assess and learn from recent crises. The ECMA partners offer a wide curriculum on many crisis-related topics, both for young students and experienced practitioners.
The administrative center of the European Crisis Management Academy is located with the CRC in Leiden, The Netherlands. For more information, please contact: Arjen Boin or Sanneke Kuipers
